Last night saw the annual Golden Globe Awards take place in Hollywood. They followed Fridays’ Critic Choice Awards. At both ceremonies David Finchers’ acclaimed biopic “The Social Network” scooped the Best Picture Award.
“The Social Network”, for the few who are yet to see it, tells the backstory of the founding of Facebook with a strong (and somewhat harsh) focus on the social networking sites’ (co-)founder, Mark Zuckerberg.
The CCA’s are often seen as a strong indicator of the Globes, which we can see in evidence when comparing the list of award recipients. The Golden Globe Awards in turn are seen as a good precursor of the big ones: The Academy Awards. Nominations for this years Oscars are scheduled to be announced on 25 January with the awards ceremony itself taking place on 27 February.
Will “The Social Network” make it 3 out of 3 I wonder?

I’m not entirely convinced. TSN was a good movie, but better than Inception? I think not personally.
Stoked that Jim Parsons score for his Sheldon Cooper character in Big Bang Theory though. That’s one I do agree with
I’ve never been a great judge of these things – I like what I like too much I guess. In this case though I enjoyed both The Social Network and Inception equally. From a cinematic point of view though, I think you’re right though. I’d probably have given it to Inception as well.
What I’m surprised about is the complete absence of another DiCaprio movie called “Shutter Island” that was also released in 2010 (not in SA though, I don’t think.) I thought it was a brilliant movie and yet I don’t even think it cracked a nomination, never mind a win. Which I guess just proves my point about not being the best judge of these things.
Second the Sheldon Cooper win most definitely!
