Followed a link yesterday (hat-tip to iMod for it) to check out the wonderful ebook, “20 Things I Learned About Browsers and the Web”, published by the Google Chrome team to mark the last 20 years of internet advancement.

The screen message that popped up took me a little by surprise though. In a big warning bar at the top of the screen in my Google Chrome browser I was informed that “This illustrated book was designed for HTML-5 compliant browsers and will not work with your current browser. For the best viewing experience , please download a modern browser, or install the Google Chrome Frame plug-in and try launching this site again.

Considering that I was trying to view an eBook about browsers and the web, published by the Google Chrome Team, in an up-to-date installation of Google Chrome (v 7.0.517.44), I thought this might qualify as a bit of a #fail. Or am I out of order here?

Despite the message, the book displays perfectly, and is well worth a look if you have an interest in the development of internet tech over the years. The wonderful animated drawings by Christoph Niemann alone are worth a moment or two of your time.
