The talents of our local crafters always impresses me. Be it wood, clay, reeds, tin cans or salvaged plastic packets, there is great skill and creativity evident in many of South Africa’s arts and crafts. Those working with wire and beads are especially talented.
In recognition of these unsung artists, the Johannesburg Tourism Company’s tourism information centre in Kliptown, Soweto has a large display of some wonderful miniature wire and bead works hanging en masse above their reception desk. This bicycle is one of them.
It’s not really floating in space – I cloned out (not very well I admit) the fine piece of fishing line that it is suspended from. Other than that, the picture is straight out of the box.
