When all the little ants are marching
Red and black antennas waving
They all do it the same
They all do it the same wayAnts Marching – Dave Matthews Band
Ants have always intrigued me. They also bug the heck out of me when, each Summer, they take up residence in our kitchen. But that’s a different story.
This group of industrious little guys were dragging their trophy straight up the wall to (presumably) their nest where their supersized takeaway meal would probably be used to feed a large number of their family.
I initially assumed that the prize was a fortunate find for the ants, but on looking at the picture now I’m wondering if it was in fact not set upon by the ants and killed by them. If you look closely at the bottom of the bug there are clearly a couple of bits missing from either side of it. That and the number of missing legs seem to suggest that maybe it was more prey than prize?
Oh, and I dig Dave Matthews too!
