Friday Photo 16: Strawberry Summer
A somewhat delayed Friday Photo post today due to yesterdays’ hugely irritating hard drive crash. Having spent the better part of the last 24 hours having to reinstall operating systems and applications, I’m eventually able to reconnect and complete this post.
Captured this terrific shot of fresh strawberries during our recent trip to the Western Cape at the wonderfully named Polkadraai Farm Stall & Strawberry Farm.
Located about 5kms outside of Stellenbosch, the farm allows you to pick your own from the fields. At the ridiculous price of R22/kg, it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. Besides, the fields are filled with amusing scarecrows that Little Gee wanted to see. (Added a shot of one of these below as well.)
As many berries were eaten in the fields as were purchased to take back to the hotel with us, and we probably should have paid a lot more for them. Under clear summer skies, the smell of fresh strawberries everywhere – the taste of the fruit straight off the bush was amazing. I’d heartily recommend it to anyone in the area.
The photo was taken looking down into a basket of freshly picked berries, just before they were loaded into the back of the refrigerated truck on their way to market. No edits to it at all, other than the obvious size reductions for the web.

Reminds me of someone I know. Just can’t seem to be able to put a name to the face though…

Hey! I know the place – drive past it regularly. They have a giant man sitting on a high chair as well, don’t they?
Delicious looking strawberries. I’m going to have to make a point of stopping there the next time I’m in the area.
That’s the one Anne. Got a picture of the odd-looking giant in the high chair somewhere as well. Will keep it for a future FriPho.

Very nice. Strawberries are my favorite fruit. Like the thought of eating them straight from the bush. Lovely.
